Dhanbad, May 13: A 26 years old youth identified as Rahul Singh, son of an employee of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), immolated himself at his home late night on Friday in Bhagatdih colony under the Jharia police station.

Jharia police station officer in-charge Santosh Kumar Singh told media persons that the incident was reported at around 12.30 am.  The youth had already died from burn injury before the police reached the spot.

BCCL employee Babita Devi, the mother of Rahul Singh, told the police that after taking dinner her son had gone to bed at around 11 pm. At late night they spotted smoke billowing out from her son’s room. They broke the gate of room with help of neighbours and found Rahul burning. They doused the fire but since then Rahul had already been burnt completely.
Getting information, Jharia police station officer in-charge Santosh Kumar Singh reached the spot immediately and took the body in possession.
The police officer said the situation suggests Rahul poured flammable liquid on himself and set himself on fire. Smell of kerosene was also felt inside the room. The reason of drastic step is yet to be cleared, he added.

Rahul’s mother said that he looked normal before going to bed and had taken dinner like any other days.  He was working in Mumbai and had returned last month. Police sent the body for post mortem and began investigation.
