Jamshedpur, May 25: A spotted deer was found lying dead along a railway track in Haldipokhar under the Kowali thana area near Jamshedpur early on Thursday morning.

The spotted deer which comes under the vulnerable species is suspected to have died of being exposed to excessive heat.

The caracas of the full-grown deer was found lying in a barren land between the railway track and Kumharpara at Haldipokhar under the Kowali thana area about 23 km away from here early this morning.

There was no mark of injury on the deer’s body, but a trail of blood oozing from the nose.

As the region does not come under the forest department and wild animals, deer are not found there, the sight of a spotted deer lying dead attracted a huge crowd of villagers from the surrounding areas.

Within a few minutes, a police party had also reached the spot and taken the caracas under its custody.

Sub-inspector Pawan Kumar of the Kowali thana said he had immediately informed the forest department about the dead spotted deer lying along the railway track.

“The forest department recovered the caracas and took it to Jamshedpur for autopsy. The reason behind the death could be known after the autopsy only, but apparently, the deer might have died due to excessive heat and lack of drinking water, ” said the sub-inspector while talking to lagatar24.com.

Divisional forest officer, Jamshedpur, Mamta Priyadarshi did not respond call when approached for a comment over the issue of the death of spotted deer.
