Daltonganj, May 29: A 4-year-old male deer, which was found grievously injured on Saturday and by late night Saturday it succumbed to its injuries, not of any gun shot.
This was stated by the block animal husbandry officer Manatu Shashi Sinha who had conducted the post mortem of the deer on Sunday in the Manatu forest range office.
The animal husbandry officer said the deer had two lacerated wounds which belie it was any shot at with gun. Gun shot injuries never lacerate. It creates holes, she added.
Shashi Sinha said during the course of the post mortem no foreign body (read cartridge, bullet) was found either in the carcass of deer.
She contested some news getting viral that the deer had two gun wounds and a poacher could have done this. She reiterated that its wounds were self-inflicting.
The animal husbandry officer, on the other hand, said, “This deer might have sustained injuries itself as something sharp and piercing must have entered its body leading to excess and constant bleeding and shock that proved fatal”.
She said the deer died of bleeding and shock.
It was buried in the ground of the range office of Manatu, she said.
