BIT Sindri develops waste management system to keep campus clean

Dhanbad, June 3: BIT Sindri has initiated a campaign of making its own waste management system with setting several vermicomposting pits near the hostels on the campus on Saturday.
BIT Sindri director Dr DK Singh, leading the drive along with faculty members of different departments said that the objective of this campaign is to make the institution clean and green. He also shed light on the importance of composting for conversion of biodegradable waste into manure.

The campaign ‘ Mission Life’ began at 10 am. Besides Dr DK Singh, senior professors of other departments including Prof R K Verma, Dr SP Mishra, Dr D Mahto, Dr R Nayak, Dr BD Yadav, Prof Meenakshi, Dr Swati Tomar participated in it and highly appreciated the dream project of the institution’s director.

“The objective of this drive was to promote the usage of cloth and jute bags and eliminate the ill effects of single use plastics also,” said the director.
On the occasion, the director also distributed cloth and jute bags among employees of the institution and advised them to desist from using plastic bags on the campus.

Last week, the BIT Sindri administration, faculty members, students and staff had pledged to make campus plastic free and launched a day -long plastic collection campaign. It was also resolved to kick start awareness campaigm among people of Sindri Township about fall out of use of plastic bags.
Students of the institution, Avinash Kumar Priyadarshi, Rachit Prabhat, Bimal Murmu, Ronit Ekka and Alok Ranjan also actively participated in the campaign to make the campus clean and green.
