Jamshedpur, June 8: The driver of an iron-rods-laden truck was killed as the speeding vehicle hit a stationary truck on NH-33 under Chowka thana area in Chandil about 35 km away from here in the wee hours on Thursday.
Identified as Jamuna Yadav, the mishap victim was a resident of the Hazaribag district. His family members are on their way to the Seraikela after being informed about the incident.
The accident took place near Ormal village under the Chowka thana area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district at about 2.30 am and came to the notice of a patrolling party at around 5.00 am.
According to police, a cement-laden truck was stationary on the NH-33 due to a breakdown. Another truck which was speeding towards the same direction carrying iron rods missed to spot the stationary truck in the middle of the highway and rammed into it.
The collision was so intense that the front side of the iron-laden truck was damaged completely with its driver getting trapped inside. The police had to press a crane and gas-cutting machine to retrieve the body of the driver who was already dead.
The police have sent the body to Seraikela Sadar Hospital for postmortem.
The driver and cleaner of the stationary truck had good luck as they were in deep slumber on the road side at a little distance away from their vehicle.
