Mahasamund, June 8: In a significant victory against drug smuggling, police in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district have detained two people they claim were involved in cannabis sales and have seized contraband worth approximately Rs 1.25 crore on Wednesday.
According to Mahasamund Superintendent of Police (SP) Dharmendra Singh, a police team stopped a vehicle inside the boundaries of Singhod police station after receiving a specific tip concerning the sale of marijuana. From the truck, contraband was found.
The officer reported that during the search, police found 500 kilogrammes of marijuana. He added that the discovery was worth approximately Rs 1.25 crore.
The officer went on to say that the two Delhi locals who had been apprehended as suspects were Sudhir Kumar Yadav and Ramkumar Shahshankar. The pair admitted during questioning to being cab drivers who suffered losses during the COVID-19 outbreak and then entered this illicit enterprise.
An investigation regarding the marijuana’s transport to Raipur by the accused is currently under progress. According to the relevant section of the Narcotics, Drugs, and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, police have filed a criminal complaint against the pair. Further investigation is being conducted into this issue, the officer stated.
