Jamshedpur, June 8:  The season of rains -monsoon-  finally arrived at the Indian mainland at Kerala today, after a delay of seven days.

” One week delay from its scheduled arrival of June  1 was very evident. Cyclone Biparjoy resulted in the delay. This has been the most delayed monsoon in the last four years, ” said a senior official at IMD – New Delhi talking to this portal.

The India Meteorological Department has warned that it is likely to remain mild initially due to severe cyclone Biparjoy, which is currently spreading in the Bay of Bengal.

According to IMD officials, conditions are favourable for further advance of monsoon into the remaining parts of the central Arabian Sea, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, southwest Northeast Bay of Bengal, northeastern states and Kerala during the next two to three days.

The  India Meteorological Department had earlier issued an alert to the fishermen in coastal areas of Kerala not to venture into the sea.

According to weathermen, the monsoon currents got slowed down due to the formation of a low-pressure area over the southeast Arabian Sea and its intensification, into a cyclonic storm Biparjoy.

Meteorologists said that cyclonic storm Biparjoy will move north during the next few days and gradually become weak.

With the onset of the monsoon in Kerala, weathermen in Jharkhand are hopeful that it is expected to arrive in Jharkhand sometime in the third week of June if the situation remains favourable.
