Dhanbad, June 9: The National Students Union of India (NSUI) today locked the main gate of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) in protest against the decision of the authorities to close Inter and Post Graduate (PG) courses in colleges of Dhanbad and Bokaro.
Hundreds of the NSUI activists under district president Gopal Krishna Chaudhary reached the Bhelatand-based new campus of the university at 12.30 pm in a procession and locked the main gate paralysing the entry and exit of staff, officials and authorities completely.
Having seen an irate mob of students, vice-chancellor Sukheo Bhoi and other authorities fled through the back gate of the campus. After three hours of the lockdown, NSUI lifted the blockade at 3.30 pm.
The NSUI president said that BBMKU is the lone university in Jharkhand that has closed study of inter and post graduate in colleges. The New Education policy does not apply to the students of classes XI and XII. Moreover, the students of Dhanbad and Bokaro would suffer from closing PG study in college. Students of Bokaro would suffer the most from this decision.
BBMKU has stopped Inter study and PG centres in colleges from the current academic session.
The NSUI alleged that V-C Sukhdeo Bhoi is trying to spoil the higher education ambition of Dhanbad –Bokaro students and compelling the students to go on an agitation path.
“Now in the next phase we would launch an awareness campaign among students in each college of the university to protest the decision of the vice-chancellor,” said Gopal Krishna.
