A 55-year-old man was on Tuesday arrested for allegedly abetting an utility company staff to commit suicide in the year 2018.
A team of railway police from Tatanagar arrested the man Gautam Mallik from his house at Syndicate Colony in Kadma’s Uliyan locality this morning. Another accused, Sonu Kumar, who is a resident of Sonari has absconded.
According to sources, a team of railway police had come to arrest Gautam on Monday night, but the accused managed to escape the arrest on the plea of sickness.
The railway police came to the accused’s house in the morning again and took him along. The railway police took the accused to the MGM medical college hospital where he is undergoing treatment under custody.
According to the railway police, Gautam and Sonu Kumar had given one Aradhya Ray a loan of Rs one lakh. Aradhya who used to work as an accountant in the utility company JUSCO had paid back the loan with the interest, but Gautam and his associate Sonu Kumar would demand further.
The two accused were not only demanding more money but also were threatening Aradhya to face dire consequences. The duo had threatened to abduct Aradhya’s children and get them killed.
Unable to bear the adversaries meted out to him by Gautam and Sonu Kumar, the JUSCO accountant committed suicide by comming under a passenger train near Tatanagar station in 2018. Before taking the drastic step, Aradhya had written a suicidal note, mentioning the reason behind the suicide.
The deceased’s wife who is also a resident of Uliyan had lodged a named FIR as she was aware about the whole matter.
While getting the case investigated, the railway police had also roped in FSL to unravel the case logically. The arrest was made after the railway police got clinching evidence against the accused in the case.
