Ranchi, June 15: The Jharkhand High Court today directed the state’s caste scrutiny committee not to pass any order in the matter involving BJP’s Kanke MLA Samri Lal till the decision of the court.

A division bench headed by chief justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra gave the direction while hearing the review petition of Congress party’s former Kanke MLA Suresh Baitha.

Baitha filed the review petition after a single judge bench on January 31 this year quashed the caste scrutiny committee order by which Lal’s caste certificate was cancelled saying the MLA is not a Jharkhandi and as his native village is in Rajasthan. The court while quashing the order directed for constitution of a separate committee for caste certificate verification.

The court will hear the matter on June 24.

The matter is important as in case the caste certificate of Lal is cancelled he will lose his assembly membership. He had contested from the Kanke seat which is reserved for scheduled castes.
