Kutch, June 17: Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, met with patients on Saturday at Mandvi Civil Hospital who had been hospitalised after being impacted by Cyclone Biparjoy.
Shah also had met with residents of the Mandvi district village of Kathda, in the meantime.
An aerial survey of the areas in Gujarat’s Kutch affected by Cyclone Biparjoy was carried out earlier today by the Union Home Minister.
Shah would meet with Patel and other senior officers for a review meeting later on in the day.
Cyclone Biparjoy, which originated in the Arabian Sea and swept across the west coast of India, made landfall on Thursday night around 10 km north of the Jakhau Port in Kutch in Gujarat.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in the early hours today, the cyclone has weakened into a “deep depression” and is projected to continue to weaken over the following 12 hours into a “depression.”
IMD reports that at about 11:30 p.m. on Friday over Southeast Pakistan, the cyclonic storm weakened into a “deep depression.” “Cyclonic Storm Biparjoy weakened into a Deep Depression at 2330 hours IST of yesterday, June 16, 2023, over Southeast Pakistan adjoining Southwest Rajasthan and Kutch about 100 km northeast of Dholavira. To weaken further into a Depression during next 12 hours,” IMD said in a tweet.
Earlier reports indicated that the effects of the storm caused a number of trees to be uprooted in Bhuj, Kutch. The clearing job was done on Friday by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team.
After Cyclone Biparjoy made landfall in coastal areas of the state on Thursday evening, 127 civilians were evacuated from Rupen Bandar Government Primary School and relocated to NDH School Dwarka by a total of six National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams.
82 men, 27 women and 15 children are among the evacuated people, according to the NDRF.
After cyclone “Biparjoy” made landfall in Gujarat, heavy rain was predicted for the state’s following two days. As a precaution in cyclone-prone areas, Western Railways decided to cancel, partially cancel the operation of a few more trains on Friday.
The State Emergency Operations Centre in Gandhinagar hosted a meeting with the Gujarat Chief Minister to assess the state’s status following the landfall of Cyclone Biparjoy.
The district collectors in the affected areas were instructed by the chief minister of Gujarat to conduct surveys to determine the extent of the damage in their districts.
A power outage was brought on by storm Biparjoy’s powerful winds and rain in Gujarat’s Jamnagar district. Teams from PGVCL (Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited) were working to fix the problem on Friday.
414 feeders, 221 electric poles, and one TC were made operational instantly out of the destroyed property. In the villages of the Jamnagar district, the electricity supply was restored.
The one current transformer that was quickly rendered operational was situated in Jamnagar’s Kalavad taluka.
Atul Karwal, the director general of the NDRF, said on Friday that no loss of lives has been reported as a result of Cyclone Biparjoy making landfall in Gujarat. “Twenty-four animals have died and 23 people have been injured. Electricity supply has been interrupted in about a thousand villages. 800 trees have fallen. It is not raining heavily anywhere except Rajkot,” the NDRF DG Karwal said.
