Mumbai, June 17: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, on Saturday, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ekanth Shinde at the latter’s residence in Mumbai.
Rahul Shewale, an MP for the Shiv Sena, was also present.
Speaker Om Birla is in Mumbai on a one-day visit. He arrived in the state’s capital on Friday, and at the Jio World Convention Centre’s First National Legislators Conference, he gave the opening speech.
Birla stated on Friday that uproar, sloganeering, and a premeditated adjournment of the House are not positive indicators for the nation’s democracy and that they devalue democracy itself.
Birla praised the idea of convening the first-ever Legislators Conference and expressed the hope that the conversations held over its various Sessions will significantly enhance and empower our legislative bodies.
He noted that India, the world’s oldest, biggest, and most thriving democracy, had consistently upheld democratic processes to the highest standard.
He inaugurated the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Innovation Expo yesterday. The Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Innovation Expo aims to highlight innovative models for social innovation, development, and good governance, as well as state government, institution and individual flagship programmes.
