Union Health Minister chairs high-level meeting amid heatwaves

New Delhi, June 20: A high-level meeting to assess the country’s public health services’ readiness for heatwaves was presided over by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday in the nation’s capital.

Dr V K Paul, Member (Health), Dr Rajiv Bahl, NITI Aayog, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), along with India Meteorological Department (IMD) experts were also present at the meeting.

The oppressive heat is affecting a lot of individuals across the nation.

Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College reported two deaths on Monday that occurred in the midst of high temperatures in the Gaya district of Bihar.

On Monday, 58 patients in all were admitted to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College.

Due to the prevailing heat wave, the Patna District Magistrate suspended all academic activities up to Class 12 in Patna. The directive is in effect until June 24.

In the following days, Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana will experience temperatures as high as 40 to 45 degrees, according to IMD scientist Naresh Kumar.

“The heat wave is continuing in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. An orange alert has been issued in these parts,” he said.

Sonepur in Odisha registered the maximum day temperature on Saturday at 45.6 degrees Celsius. The peak daytime temperature was 44.6 degrees Celsius in Bhubaneshwar, which was 9.7 degrees Celsius above average for the previous 24 hours.
