Bijapur, June 21: In Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, a jawan was hurt by an improvised explosive device (IED) during an encounter with the Naxals on Wednesday.
Ajay Mandawi, a District Reserve Group (DRG) Dantewada jawan, was returning from a Naxalite camp when he was struck by a pressure IED near Kurush, inflicting only minor injuries.
He had embarked on an anti-Naxalite operation with his group of joint security officers. He was sent to the Bijapur District Hospital for medical attention.
In the meantime, Naxal-owned food and medicinal supplies were found throughout the search.
An anti-Naxalite operation towards Pediya, which falls under the jurisdiction of Gangaloor police station, was started earlier on Monday by a joint team of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), Special Task Force (STF), DRG Dantewada and DRG Bijapur.
In Pediya on Tuesday, the security forces came into conflict with armed Naxalites at several locations, and during that conflict, they demolished a Naxalite camp and a Naxalite memorial site. The Naxalite camp yielded several items for daily usage, explosives, a few items for tailoring and medications.
Evidence found at the scene of the incident suggests that the operation may have resulted in the injuries or death of two to three Naxalites during the conflict.
On Wednesday while returning from the Naxalite camp, the DRG jawan got injured after being hit by a pressure IED.
