Mumbai, June 26: Following the collapse of a portion of a three-story building in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar (East) neighbourhood on Sunday, bodies of two people, including a 94-year-old lady, were found on Monday morning, according to officials.
The deceased were identified as Naresh Palande (56), and Alka Mahadev Palande (94), the tragedy happened in Ghatkopar’s Rajawadi Colony.
After a search and rescue operation was launched following the collapse tragedy that happened on Sunday morning, their corpses were located and sent to Rajawadi Hospital on Monday morning.
“The missing two people were recovered and sent to Rajawadi Hospital, where doctors were declared them dead,” Dr. Prasad Gade, CMO, of Rajawadi Hospital said.
The search and rescue effort, according to officials, is over. An official reported that the bodies of the two missing victims had been found.
After heavy rainfall, a building collapsed at around 09.33 am on Sunday, burying many individuals beneath the building’s debris.
However, the rescue personnel began evacuating victims shortly after the catastrophe. On Sunday, four persons were evacuated. A search operation was also underway for two other people who were still stranded.
For the rescue effort, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), the 108 Ambulance, the Ward Staff, the Mumbai Fire Brigade, and the NDRF were all called in.
