Dhanbad, June 26: Dhanbad Divisional Rail Manager (DRM) Kamal Kishore Sinha has landed in a soup for allegedly stripping off a staff, of the Divisional Railway Hospital in his chamber for asking his wife to take off her shoes.
According to sources, the DRM called the hospital attendant, Basant Upadhyay, at his divisional headquarters chamber through the chief medical officer and stripped him half naked on Thursday last. The DRM sent Upadhyay back half-naked after humiliating and threatening him with a charge sheet.
The only fault of Basant Upadhyay was that he had asked a lady patient (who was the wife of DRM), to take off her shoes before entering the dentist’s chamber in the hospital as per instructions.
Highly placed official sources said that the Railway Board, Delhi has taken cognizance of the incident and sought a report from East Central Railway (ECR), Hajipur under which the Dhanbad Division falls, about it.
Having seen the issue taking a serious turn, DRM KK Sinha along with the ADRM, and other senior officials visited Asarfi Hospital on Sunday evening and took care of the victim staff. Rattled by humiliation inflicted by the DRM, Upadhyay fainted in the hospital while narrating the incident to his colleagues.
Later, the doctor referred him to a super specialty hospital in critical condition. The staff of the division hospital boycotted the OPD for more than 2.5 hours in protest.

East Central Railway Karmachari Union (ECRKU), Hajipur Central Committee president DK Pandey took this incident seriously and set up a committee comprising Md Jyauddin, Tapas Sahu, NK Khawas, AK Daa, Upendra Mandal, and others to probe. The probe team met the victim staff admitted at Asarfi Hospital and took details of it from Basant Upadhyay and his family members.
“It was an unfortunate, unexpected and sad incident. First, our duty is to ensure proper treatment to Upadhyay and take up issues at the ECR headquarters,” said DK Pandey through a press note in Dhanbad.
The Dhanbad Divisional Railway ECRKU leaders expressed resentment over the incident and said that they would go to any extent to protect the honour of their employees.
DRM KK Sinha did not receive any call despite repeated attempts on Monday afternoon. Even mobile phones of ADRM Ashish Jha and senior DCM Amrendra Kumar were found switched off.
