Ranchi, July 1: The district land acquisition officer (DLAO) today publicised a public notice for raising objections to the compensation payment for the land, acquired for expansion of the Birsa Munda airport, after the deadline expired on June 25.

Several acres of land in Hethu village against which compensation was to be paid, had been acquired for expansion of the Birsa Munda Airport years back. Those who claimed the compensation included Suresh Gope, Mahesh Gope and Dhaneshwar Gope. The LAO signed the notice on June 16. The last date for raising an objection was June 25. However, the notice was publicised in the village today.

A Hethu resident informed about the situation expressing his concern over the attitude of the district administration in case of the compensation payment.

“It is nothing but an attempt to harass the villagers,” the resident said.

Contacted LAO Anjali Das, she expressed her ignorance in the matter. “Junior staff might have committed a mistake. I will look into the matter.  The situation has arisen after several staff were transferred,” she said.

A locality resident said land was acquired for the Birsa Munda Airport expansion in a casual manner and seriousness was not shown to inform the land owners regarding land acquisition, demarcation of their acquired land, timely payment of their compensation.

“It was the lack of seriousness on the part of the officers that the acquired land was mutated; construction was allowed on the acquired land and each house developed on the acquired land was given a proper power connection, holding numbers besides other facilities,” the resident said.
