Ranchi, July 1: Judicial Commissioner Arun Kumar Rai today rejected the bail to Nigerian citizen Morris Silver (43) lodged at the Birsa Munda Central Jail for cheating a local married woman after developing friendship with her through social media.
Morris has been in jail since May 13. Officials of the Bariatu police station arrested him from the airport after Rosie Parveen lodged an FIR against her after he duped Rs 1.50 lakh from her. Information regarding his arrest has been given to the Nigerian embassy.
Morris had cheated the woman by posing himself as a merchant navy officer. He told her that he has worked as a captain in a ship for the last 15 years. One day he demanded Rs 1.5 lakh from saying he needed the same to come to India.
The woman transferred the amount in three attempts. After money was transferred, he switched off the mobile and never contacted her. The woman realized her mistake. In order to teach him a lesson she contacted him through Instagram and called her to India promising a bigger amount.
As the man agreed, she informed the police and finally he was arrested at Ranchi airport.
The present address of Morris is House No. 2, Mohan Garden, Dwarka. The police had recovered three mobiles, a watch, two keys and a passport from his possession. He had reached India on a tourist visa.
