Ranchi, July 2: In Jharkhand, from the year 2019 to May 31, 2023, 8744 cases have been registered under the POCSO Act and SC-ST Act in which Jharkhand Police has filed charge sheet in only 6197 cases. The charge sheet was filed in 3834 cases in 4578 cases of the POCSO Act, while 4196 cases were registered in SC ST Act and the charge sheet was filed in 2363 cases only.

Dhanbad registered the maximum number of cases, 76, under the POCSO Act this year followed by Hazaribag 59, Ranchi 45, Garhwa 26, Palamu 25.

Hazaribagh recorded the maximum number of cases, 79, under the SC/ST Act this year, followed by Garhwa 54, Ranchi 41, Giridih 39, Palamu 32.

A fixed time of 90 to 60 days is given to the police to file the charge sheet. It is seen that in some cases the police deliberately do not file the charge sheet of an accused on time. Because the court considers the bail of the accused only after the charge sheet is filed that’s why the police sometimes do this to stop the bail of the accused.
