Daltonganj, July 3: The Government Engineering College at Basaura under the Lesliganj Police Station in Palamu is bustling with academic activities. Offline classes are in full swing. Diploma holders are joining this college.
According to Principal-in-charge Dr Sanjay Kumar Singh, “Diploma pass engineering students are taking admission in this government engineering college. Under the AICTE (All India Council for Technical College of Education), a diploma holder has direct admission in the second-year degree course of engineering.”
“In the very first round 68 diploma holders have taken admission in the second year here. There will be two more rounds of such admission,” added Dr Singh.

The Lesliganj government engineering college, second in the state after the BIT Sindri and first in the Palamu Commissionerate, has an intake capacity of 349 students in the first year in four faculties combined namely civil, mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering.
According to Dr Singh, “195 students had taken their admission in the first year as against 349 seats and as such there were 154 seats vacant but now diploma holders are coming in thick numbers, like 68 in the very first round, we believe this government engineering college will be a houseful college very soon.”
On being asked about diploma holders seeking admission for a degree in this college, Dr Singh said as it’s a government engineering college hence, its fee structure is pretty affordable. Further, the tag of being a government college is in itself highly reassuring to the students.
