IIT ISM launches Master Class on digitalization of mining process

Dhanbad, July 3: IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad and its innovation centre TEXMiN today launched a “5-day (from July 3 to 7) Master Class on Digitalization of Mining Processes” for senior executives of the mining industry. The master class will focus on perspectives and adoption of Mining 4.0 technologies across the value chain, from exploration to mine planning and operation systems, production & maintenance systems, and the overall mine management systems.

Former director of IIT ISM Prof Rajiv Shekhar was the chief guest in the inaugural session. Present along with him were Prof JK Pattanayak, Director IIT(ISM), Prof Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director cum Director TEXMiN, Prof Sagar Pal, Dean (R&D), IIT(ISM), on the occasion.

Several officials beside them were the senior executives from the mining & mineral industry and different stakeholders including CIL subsidiaries like BCCL, CCL, SECL, NCL, WCL, other PSU’s like MOIL, HCL, BEML, WBPDCL and private stakeholders like Adani, Hindalco, Jindal Power witnessed the event.

“Through this 5-day interactive session, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the latest Mining 4.0 digital technologies and their application to solving real-time mining problems, learn how to drive the adoption of emerging technologies in their organization, address the key issues of productivity, safety and sustainability of mining operations, can plan to implement in their organization,” said Prof Rajiv Shekhar.

He said Technology Innovation in Exploration & Mining Foundation (TEXMiN), has been established as a section 8 company by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India (GoI), at IIT ISM under the NM-ICPS programme to develop and implement Cyber-Physical systems (CPS) based technologies to achieve 3S (Safe, Smart, and Sustainable Mining leading to Mining 4.0) through operation & process optimization across the mining value chain.

IIT ISM is an institute of national importance which caters to the needs of the nation through teaching, research and professional development programmes in all fields of science, technology and management, including mining, petroleum, mining machinery, mineral engineering, earth sciences, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, environmental science and engineering.
