A video of The Dalai Lama cutting a cake on his 88th birthday emerged from Ladakh.
The current Dalai Lama, who is also Tibet’s supreme spiritual leader and head, is the 14th Dalai Lama, also known as Gyalwa Rinpoche to the Tibetan people.
China views the Dalai Lama, who has been living in exile in India for decades, as a separatist who wants to free the formerly independent territory from Chinese rule.
In the 1950s, Chinese armies invaded and occupied Tibet under the justification that it had always been a part of China.
The Dalai Lama claims that he will only support greater autonomy for Tibet within China if there is a guarantee that its tradition, language and religion will be preserved.
