New Delhi, July 22: India is working hard to transition to a green economy, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who also claimed that the nation is making significant progress towards meeting its climate obligations.

He also mentioned that India has demonstrated leadership in terms of climate action while speaking through video link at the G-20 Energy Ministers’ Meeting, which is now taking place in Goa.

“India is making great efforts in green growth and energy transition. India is the most populated nation and fastest-growing large economy. Yet we are moving strongly on our climate commitments,” he said.

“We achieved our non-fossil installed electric capacity target nine years in advance. We have set a higher target. We plan to achieve 50 per cent non-fossil electricity by 2030,” the prime minister said.

He said that the G20 is admired around the world for its commitment to an advanced, affordable, sustainable, inclusive, and clean energy transition.

“While doing this, it is important that our brothers and sisters in the global south are not left behind. We must ensure low-cost finance for developing countries,” he said.

The PM emphasised the need for more cooperation on fuels for the future and urged us to find solutions to close technological gaps, promote energy security, and strive to diversify supply chains.
