Dhanbad, July 22: Despite all deficiencies, the doctors of Dhanbad sadar hospital added another feather in their cap by conducting vaginal hysterectomy with anterior colporrhaphy and pelvic floor repair of a patient.
The team comprising gynaecologist Dr Sanjiv Kumar and anaesthetic Dr Anand Kumar completed the operation successfully in one hand half hours.
The patient, Seema Devi (43), a resident of Digbadih 10 no. in Jharia, had been suffering from complication of urinal trouble and her uterus had slipped down for last 10 months.
“Operation at private hospitals was beyond capacity of my family as they estimated Rs 40,000 to Rs 45000 to come on it. I also approached Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Saraidhela where such an operation is being done free of cost. But neither got date nor response of the doctors. A neighbour advised me to get treatment at the sadar hospital. So, I came here and within week doctors conducted the operation,” said the patient.
She said all the facilities are being provided her free of cost and the nursing staff take care seriously.
Sadar hospital Deputy Superintendent Dr Sanjiv Kumar, who is also a gynaecologist, said that after check-up in the OPD, the hospital management decided to conduct the operation with the available resources and successfully we did it.
“The patient was suffering from blood deficiencies. It was arranged from blood storage unit of the hospital and operation was conducted,” he added.
Chief minister Hemant Soren had inaugurated blood storage unit of sadar hospital last month.
Rare operation at Dhanbad sadar hospital keeps importance as it was reopened in 2019 after 35 years of closure following efforts of sadar MLA Raj Sinha and intervention of High Court.
“ Confidence of people is growing on sadar hospital day by day as patients are pouring in large number. We are trying to provide best possible health service from available resources as mostly poor patients come here”, said civil surgeon Dr Alok Vishwakarma.
