Jamshedpur, July 26: The monsoon activity was weak over Jharkhand and this will result in scattered light rain over the state today, said a forecast issued by IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre.
The forecast for Ranchi and its adjoining areas suggests generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.
Meanwhile, the well-marked low pressure area over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts persists and the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 km above mean sea level.
It is likely to intensify into a depression over the same region during next 24 hours. Subsequently, it is likely to move slowly northwestwards across north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts.
The monsoon trough at mean sea level was today passing through Jaisalmer, Kota, Guna, Raipur, Bhawanipatna, centre of the well-marked low pressure area over westcentral and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts and thence east-southeastwards to eastcentral Bay of Bengal extending upto 1.5 km above the mean sea level.
In absence of proper rainfall activity during the past few days the state’s rain deficit rose to 47 per cent. Met statistics suggest that against a normal of 444 mm the state has so far received 237 mm of rain, resulting in 47 % rain deficit.
