Bhopal, July 28: The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER, Bhopal) has established a number of programmes to help fulfil the key features of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
A comprehensive policy called NEP 2020 seeks to change the nation’s educational system and make it more diverse, adaptable and multidisciplinary. The IISER Bhopal is primarily focusing on the curriculum, student nurturing, well-being and performance, faculty assistance in research and teaching, and entrepreneurship in line with NEP 2020.
Director of IISER Bhopal Siva Umapathy commented on the implementation of NEP 2020, “Policy framed out under NEP is timely and futuristic and the implementation requires the participation of various stakeholders, including faculty, administrators, students and the Ministry of Education. If we all have common goals many of the policy’s objectives can be achieved. There are always challenges for any new changes that we bring in but if we have proper transparent methodologies, feedback mechanisms and periodic revisions policy’s goals can be achieved.”
“Implementation of NEP 2020 is possible at IISER Bhopal because of the faculty’s active support and acceptance of the new paradigms and willingness to deliver and participate in the designing courses and supporting them,” the Director of IISER Bhopal added.
A few elements of NEP 2020 have been adopted by IISER Bhopal, which emphasises the value of interdisciplinary research and study, encourage students to explore various areas of knowledge and promote collaboration between various disciplines.
Peer counsellors are also available at the Institute to support the mental health of the students. ‘Undergraduate Clubs for Research Enthusiasts in Science and Technology’ (UG-CREST) is a cutting-edge educational initiative at IISER Bhopal. It is an innovative effort to foster scientific mindsets in a young graduate student.
Additionally, the Institute promotes entrepreneurship through its Department of Science and Technology-funded Innovation and Incubation Centre (IICE), which encourages staff and students to explore their entrepreneurial potential while fostering innovation.
Additionally, the Institute is encouraging its faculty members to apply for patents for their research, which has the potential to result in significant innovations and developments across a range of industries.
In order to expose students to real-world experiences and insights that greatly improve the entrepreneurial environment and produce a well-rounded learning experience, IISER Bhopal also invites entrepreneurs from various fields to offer lectures to students.
