Heavy rain alert in Garhwa, western and central Jharkhand today

Jamshedpur, July 31:  An active monsoon is expected to trigger heavy rain in the Garhwa district and several other isolated places in western and central Jharkhand today, said a weather bulletin issued by IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

According to weathermen, thunderstorms and lightning are also expected in a few isolated places today.

The forecast for tomorrow indicated heavy rain at isolated places over the southeast and adjoining central parts of the state.

The low-pressure area over north Odisha and adjoining West Bengal Coasts now lies over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha and West Bengal coasts.

An associated cyclonic circulation was extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level was today passing through Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bareilly, Patna, Bankura, the centre of Low-Pressure Area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha and West Bengal coasts and thence southeastwards to east-central Bay of Bengal.

A trough runs from northwest Bihar to the cyclonic circulation associated with the low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between 0.9 and 3.1 Km above mean sea level.

The rain deficit dropped 3 % during the last two days. As of today, Jharkhand’s rain deficit stood at 46%.

According to rain statistics, Jharkhand has so far received  267 mm of rain against a normal of 499 mm,  resulting in a 46 % rain deficit.
