Himachal Pradesh: Three new High Court judges sworn in

Shimla, July 31: At a ceremony held on Monday at Raj Bhawan, judges for the Himachal Pradesh High Court Ranjan Sharma, Bipin Chander Negi and Rakesh Kainthla were sworn in.

In the presence of the Himachal Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Mamidanna Satya Ratna Sri Ramachandra Rao and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla administered the oath of the newly appointed judges. Ministers, dignitaries and Sri Jai Ram Thakur, the opposition leader, were also present.

The High Court now has 12 members after the addition of three new judges. While Justice Rakesh Kainthla is a member of the judicial services, Justices Ranjan Sharma and Bipin Chander Negi are advocates.

The proceedings of the swearing-in ceremony were presided over by Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, who also read the warrant of appointment given by the President of India for the appointment of three judges to the High Court of Himachal Pradesh.

Justice Sharma, who was born on August 21st, 1968, is a native of the Kangra district’s Dharamshala. He attended the Government School in Dharamshala and received a gold medal for his LL.B. at Rohtak University.

Justice Sharma practised law in a variety of fields after enrolling as an advocate in December 1991. He was named a senior advocate in March 2019. He also served as the additional advocate general in 2008 and 2018.

Justice Negi, who is from the Kinnaur district, attended St. Edward’s School in Shimla and Delhi Public School in RK Puram in the capital. He then completed his B.A. in Economics with Honours at Sri Ram College of Commerce in Delhi and his LL.B. at Himachal Pradesh University in Shimla. He signed up as an advocate in 1994, and in 2015, he was given the title of senior advocate.

Justice Kainthla, who was born in Shimla on May 23, 1968, attended the DAV School in Lakkar Bazar, Shimla before graduating from the Government College in Sanjauli, Shimla and earning his LL.B. at the Himachal Pradesh University in Shimla.

He registered as an advocate in 1991 and began practising law in different fields. In the 1995 Himachal Judicial Service Examination and the 2010 Limited Competitive Examination of Judicial Officers, Justice Rakesh Kainthla won first place, and he was appointed as additional district and sessions judge.

He served as the district and sessions judge in Mandi prior to being elevated to the position of judge on the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
