PTR faces ranger shortage as key ranger retires

Daltonganj, July 31: Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) is set to face a crunch of rangers following the superannuation of one of its rangers today.

The range officer of Mahuadanr, Brinda Pandey,  retired today. He remained a ranger here for over eight long years at one place Mahuadanr, having a kind of record to his credit. A forest official retires at the age of 60 only.

Pandey is known for his efforts in containing the onslaught of the bears as bears in the Mahuadnr range are a potential threat to human lives. There is a wolf sanctuary here too in this range.

Deputy Director South division of the PTR Kumar Ashish said, “Pandey is retiring today. The post of ranger of Mahuadanr will fall vacant. We do not have any forester here to even make him a ranger in charge here.”

Ashish said PTR has in all eight ranges. Ranger Betla holds an additional charge of Chhipadohar East. Similarly, ranger Garu West holds additional charge of the Bareysanr range.

Only five rangers are manning the eight ranges and now Mahuadanr range going vacant the management of the PTR will be another difficult task.
