Jamshedpur, Aug 1: IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre issued a forecast of heavy rain in eastern Jharkhand today while an alert of very heavy rain was issued for the twin districts of Singhbhum in Kolhan region.
Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected at a few isolated places over Jharkhand today.
Heavy rain is also predicted in isolated places over western parts of the state during the next two days.
Meanwhile, the well-marked low-pressure area over central parts of the North Bay of Bengal with the associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 9.5 Km above mean sea level persists.
It is likely to move northwestwards and concentrate into a depression.
The western end of the monsoon trough at mean sea level runs close to the foothills of the Himalayas and the eastern end passes through Darbhanga, Deoghar, Canning, center of well marked low-pressure area over central parts of North Bay of Bengal and thence southeastwards to east-central Bay of Bengal.
Met statistics revealed that Jamshedpur recorded 56.1 mm of rain during the past 24 hours. Chaibasa in West Singhbhum recorded 54.4 mm of rain.
