Ranchi, Aug.4: Police arrested three involved in the killing of tribal CPI (M) leader Subhash Munda and recovered firearms they used to commit the crime on July 26 near Daladili Chowk under the Nagdi police station area.
The three include Chhotu Khalkho, a resident of Lalgutwa, Abhijeet Kumar and Vinod Kumar, a resident of Ratu. Arms recovered from their possession include a country-made pistol, a telescopic sporting rifle, a revolver and a pump action shotgun. A Fortuner vehicle used in the crime was also recovered.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishore Kaushal shared the breakthrough with the media by organizing a press conference at his office. He said the crime was committed for a 119-decimal plot at Daladili.
“The murder was committed by Chhotu Khalkho using a Supari killer. Khalkho paid Rs 15 lakh to the killer. Khalkho had an eye on 119 decimal land near Kanchan Petrol Pump on Ring Road. He had got that land in the name of his close friend through fake documents. Munda was not allowing that to happen. The land buyer was ready to pay any amount but Munda was not allowing the land to be sold. He was creating obstacles in the land deal. He was not in favour of selling land in a wrong way. Thus Kujur hatched a conspiracy to kill him,” SSP Kaushal said.
Explaining the conspiracy, SSP Kaushal said: “Khalkho became closer to Vinod Kumar, the person closest to Subhash Munda. He was told that the money received after the sale of the land would be given to everyone. Kujur told the people involved in the conspiracy that after the murder of Subhash Munda, many more lands would be captured and sold, which would earn a lot of money. After the temptation, the people involved in the conspiracy agreed to work with Khalkho. At the same time, under the conspiracy, Khallho had also made an agreement on the land in the name of someone else.”
“Khalkho and Kumar along with their other associates started plotting the murder of Subhash Munda at the time of Vinod Mahato’s marriage. For the shooter, Khalkho contacted contract killer Bablu Paswan alias Nageshwar through his associate. After which, on the condition of giving 15 lakh rupees in cash and 10 decimal land (out of 119 decimal plot only), he was prepared to commit murder,” he added.
Explaining the murder was committed, SSP Kaushal said: “Before the murder incident, Bablu Paswan brought two shooters with him and with the help of Khalkho and Kumar did recce on the spot. Apart from this, continuous recce of Subhash Munda was done by Vinod Kumar. He used to inform about this to Khalkho, who used to pass it to Paswan. Finally, Paswan executed the murder by sending both the shooters.”
SSP Kaushal said Khalkho also participated in the protest after Munda’s murder. “After Munda’s murder, Khalkho, Kumar, Abhijeet and some other criminal associates reached Daldali. Joining the crowd, they played an active role in disrupting government work, sabotage and arson,” he said.
