Dhanbad, Aug 5: IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad has developed a real-time river monitoring system to assess a river’s health, first of its kind in research development field.
The system equipped with safety alarms and video camera would also provide early signals against flooding and critical pollution locations of the water bodies.
An IIT ISM official said two members team of environmental science and engineering department of the institution comprising Prof SK Gupta and research scholar Sujoy Gupta have developed an Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet to Things (IOT) based online real time river health monitoring system, titled, Integrated River Health Investigation System (IRHIS).
The official said this system was exhibited in New Delhi on the occasion of 3rd anniversary of New Education Policy inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and in presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
While giving details at IIT ISM Dhanbad, researcher Prof SK Gupta said that it is one of the most advanced AI and IoT based online real time river health monitoring system developed to fulfil the SDG 6 ( Sustainable Development Goals ) in Namami Gange mission.
“Equipped with advanced sensors, IRHIS can help in real time monitoring of discharge of any toxic material in the river,” said Prof Gupta and added that the patent for the system has already been published.
Regarding the selection of his system for a demonstration in exhibition in New Delhi, he said that the Ministry of Education Innovation Cell and AICTE had selected 150 Technology Readiness Level 7 (TRL 7) or above early-stage startups, edutech growth stage startups, innovations, and Institutions to demonstrate their breakthrough innovation towards achieving the overall goal under the National Education Policy 2020.
