Dhanbad Aug 5: The senior professors, teachers and doctors of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical Colleges Hospital (SNMMCH) greeted Principal Dr. Jyotiranjan Prasad, who completed two years in office today, for retaining 100 MBBS seats and installing a 200 KVA solar power plant.
Superintendent Dr. Anil Kumar, Prof (Dr) UK Ojha (HoD medicine), Prof ( Dr. DP Bhushan (HoD orthopedics), Dr. Chourasia (surgery), Dr. Veenit Tigga (FMT), and other faculty members Felicitated the principal in his chamber for guiding the college to a new height in a short span of time.
Notably, SNMMCH has got permission for 100 MBBS seats from the National Medical Commission (NMC) for the (20-23) session after seven years.The NMC (earlier Medical Council of India) had given permission to SNMMCH (earlier Patliputra Medical College Hospital) Dhanbad for 100 MBBS seats in 2013 but reduced it to 50 MBBS seats in 2016 in the wake of prevailing deficiencies of faculty members and infrastructure required for 100 MBBS seats.
Since then the state government and college management had been trying to get 100 MMB seats’ permission and finally got it in 2023.
The Principal said that the development has occurred due to team efforts and the credit goes to all the teachers, doctors and staff.
“When I assumed office my mission was to regain 100 MBBS seats and launch the PG course. I achieved the first task and if all goes per plan the permission for the PG course will also come soon,” said the principal.
SNMMCH has also installed 200 KV solar power plant and self dependent on power requirement. The Jharkhand Renewal Energy Development Agency (JREDA) has set up the plant. It has enough capacity to cater to heavy requirement, including load of the college labs,” said a JREDA official.
“We have an extension plan for the solar power plant. Thererafter, the college would not only cover its campus but also earn revenue for the government,” said Dr Prasad.
