Jamshedpur, Aug 11: In a unique way to eliminate the drugs-peddling menace at Sitaramdera locality, the district police on Friday launched a program for developing self-employment there.
Following the instructions of senior SP Prabhat Kumar, functionaries of the civic body Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) organised a camp at Sitaramdera inviting those interested to start their own business by taking loans from the banks.
In the camp, which was attended by representatives of several banks, the unemployed men and women were briefed about the purpose behind such a program and were also made aware of how could they start a business of their own instead of indulging in drugs-peddling activity or in the act of selling illicit liquor.
Dozens of men and women were reported to have turned out to get their names registered for taking the benefit of the opportunity.
Special Officer, JNAC, Sanjay Kumar said the camp meant for self-employment generation is being held under the Prime Minister Svanidhi Scheme under which a beneficiary can get a bank loan starting from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000.
“Those interested have to get their names registered by furnishing Aadhaar card and PAN card. The camp will continue to be held for the next few days, ” said Kumar while talking to lagatar24.com.
Such a camp was organised at the behest of senior SP in Sitaramdera because the area was increasingly becoming a hub of drugs-peddlers, resulting in law and order problems there frequently.
“As hundreds of unemployed youths living in about a dozen slums in Sitaramdera tend to earn lucrative amounts from the illegal drugs-peddling activities in absence of any other employment opportunity there, the senior SP, Prabhat Kumar had selected Sitaramdera locality for launching such camp there, ” explained a senior police officer while talking to this correspondent.
