51 school students get first-hand experience of IIT ISM research lab

Dhanbad, Aug 19: Altogether 51 students of two schools, Lions Public School (26), Sindri and Holy Mother’s Academy (25 ), Pradhankhanta today took first hand experience of robotics, animation, mining technology innovation being carried out at laboratories of IIT  Indian School of Mines (ISM).

An IIT ISM official said that the students of two schools of the district came and learnt about the usage of CNC milling machine, mechanical lathe machine and CNC lathe machine in giving shape to the ideas of innovators in form of prototypes.

Media and Branding office of  IIT ISM had organized the tour under K-12 outreach programme to inspire and equip the school students to pursue career in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The students, who were accompanied by five teachers, including three of Lions Public School Sindri and two of Holy Mother’s Academy, Pradhankhanta, visited the different facilities of Naresh Vashisht Centre for Tinkering & Innovation (NVCTI) including, Electronics & IOT Centre, Robotics and Automation Centre, animation and  design unit and pouch battery station.
The students also explored the wide range of researches being conducted in the various centre of TEXMiN, the mining technology innovation hub of IIT (ISM) towards realizing the goal of safe, smart and sustainable mining.

The visitors also witnessed the facilities at  Coal India Limited (CIL) innovation and incubation centre and visited the Atal Community Innovation Centre (ACIC), where ground breaking innovations are being carried out under the aegis of different start-ups.

Apurva Kumari, a student of Lions Public School Sindri, observed that it was a wonderful experience for them as they visited Electronics & IOT Centre, Mechanical Tools and Rapid Prototyping unit and also 3-D Imaging centre.

Philip NG, vice principal of Lions Public School, who accompanied the students as part of three-member team of teachers said the visit was quite satisfactory for us and knowledge enriching for students .

Ayush Chandra, a student of Holy Mother’s Academy, Dhanbad, while expressing similar sentiments said the visit rekindled the passion to make a career in engineering .

The IIT ISM official said so far students of 11 schools have visited the institute.
