New Delhi, Sept 6: The Special Protection Group’s (SPG) Director, Arun Kumar Sinha, passed away on Wednesday at a private hospital in Gurugram, Haryana. He belonged to Hazaribag in Jharkhand.
Since 2016, he has been the SPG chief and was responsible for the security of both current and former prime ministers, including Narendra Modi. He recently received a service extension.
The 61-year-old officer had been receiving medical treatment for liver-related ailments over the past few months.
A Kerala-cadre IPS officer from the 1987 batch, Sinha was the Additional Director General of Police (Special Service and Traffic) in Kerala before being named the SPG’s chief.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), led by PM Modi, had approved the proposal to re-employ Sinha for an additional year just one day before his retirement as the head of the SPG on May 30 of this year.
