New Delhi, Sept 8: The European Union announced its eagerness to receive the African Union as a permanent member of the G20 during the New Delhi summit.

This was stated by Charles Michel, president of the European Council, a day before the G2O conference that India will be hosting.

“The European Union is looking forward to welcome African Union as a permanent member of the G20,” Michel said at a media briefing.

“The European Union supports African Union’s entry into G20,” he said.

In June, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to G-20 leaders, advocating for granting full membership to the African Union within the G20 during the New Delhi summit.

The suggestion was formally incorporated into the draft communique a few weeks later, during the third G-20 Sherpas meeting, which was held in Hampi, Karnataka, in July.

At the G-20 summit, a final choice would be made about the proposal.

The African Union (AU) is a significant organization consisting of 55 member states representing the nations of the African continent.
