New Delhi, Sep 14: The Supreme Court will soon be connected to the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG), a database of information about the number of cases pending and the success rate of courts from the taluka level to the national level, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud’s announced on Thursday.

The portal currently only displays data up to the high court level.

Data from the top court will be uploaded on the NJDG in real time, the CJI announced as he opened the day’s sessions in the apex court.

“A small announcement. It is a historic day. It is a unique and informative platform which is developed by the NIC and in house team of Supreme Court. Now at the click of a button you can see real time information on pendency and disposal of cases, year-wise, total pendency of registered and unregistered cases, number of cases decided quorum-wise,” the CJI said.

Uploading data to the NJDG will guarantee accountability and transparency in the judicial sector, the CJI stated.

The NJDG is an online platform developed as part of the eCourts Project that contains orders, judgements and case information from 18,735 district and subordinate courts and high courts. The connected district and taluka courts update data in nearly real time.

All of the country’s computerised district and subordinate courts’ rulings and judicial activity are detailed there. In order to provide the general public with convenient access, the high courts have also joined the NJDG through web services.
