Jamshedpur, Sept 18: Tata Steel observed World Ozone Day by organising various programmes across its operating locations.

A webinar was organised in Jamshedpur on the topic ‘Use of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) in air conditioners and Tata Steel’s take on effectively phasing down ODS”.

Jitendra Prasad Singh, regional officer, of Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board, was the chief guest.

World Ozone Day is celebrated every year to mark the day when the Montreal Protocol was signed.

This year’s theme is “Montreal Protocol: Fixing the ozone layer and reducing climate change”.

The phase-out of controlled uses of ODS and the related reductions have not only helped protect the ozone layer for present and future generations but also have contributed significantly to global efforts to address climate change.

Furthermore, it has protected human health and the ecosystem by limiting harmful ultraviolet radiation from reaching the earth.

The ozone layer, a fragile shield of gas, protects the earth from the harmful rays of the sun, thus helping preserve life on the planet.

Another enlightening awareness session on the ways to protect the ozone layer was successfully conducted at Jakhapura High School by the Environment Team of Tata Steel Kalinganagar.

Students of higher classes actively participated in engaging quiz and debate competitions.
