Islamabad, Sept 25: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party reported that the Islamabad High Court directed authorities on Monday to move former Prime Minister Imran Khan from Punjab’s Attock jail to the high-security Adiala prison in Rawalpindi.
PTI petitioned the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in August to move the ousted party leader to the Adiala prison, which has A-class amenities, taking into account Khan’s affluent family background and prominent social and political position.
The party stated that the order was issued by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) during the course of the case’s hearing.
“IHC Chief Justice has ordered moving PTI chairman Imran Khan from Attock Prison to Adiala Prison in Rawalpindi,” it said.
Following his conviction in the Toshakhana corruption case on August 5, 70-year-old Imran Khan has been locked up at Attock Jail. Despite the Islamabad High Court’s suspension of his sentence on August 29, he remains detained in Attock prison due to his involvement in the cipher (secret diplomatic cable) leaks case.
On September 13, a special court created under the Official Secrets Act extended Khan’s judicial remand in the cipher case until September 26.
