Chennai, Sept 25: After a meeting at the party’s headquarters in Tamil Nadu on Monday, the AIADMK dissolved its alliance with the BJP.
“AIADMK unanimously passed a resolution in the meeting. AIADMK is breaking all ties with the BJP and the NDA alliance from today. The state leadership of the BJP has been continuously making unnecessary remarks about our former leaders, our general secretary EPS and our cadres for the past one year,” said AIADMK’s K P Munusamy.
The dispute between the two political parties arose due to the contentious comments made by K Annamalai, the BJP chief of Tamil Nadu, regarding the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and Dravidian icon CN Annadurai.
Annamalai’s comments ignited a controversy when he stated that Annadurai had disrespected Hinduism during an event in Madurai in 1956. The BJP leader further asserted that Annadurai had been concealed in Madurai and managed to escape only after issuing an apology.
