Jamshedpur, Sept 26: District police on Tuesday carried out a mock drill at the Golmuri police line in view of keeping the police force battle-ready to tackle any emergency during the ensuing Durga Puja in the steel city.
During the mock drill which lasted for over two hours in the presence of the senior SP, Kaushal Kishore, the policemen fired shots, lobbed teargas shells, used water cannons and also carried out lathi charge.
Over 200 policemen and dozens of police officials participated in the exercise which must certainly instil confidence among the cops to meet any emergency during the grand festival.

Durga Puja is scheduled to begin on October 15 and will continue till October 24 this year. In Jamshedpur over 350 public Pujas are organised, attracting a huge crowd of Puja revellers to hit the streets as people from the city and outside indulge in pandal-hopping.
During such a period, criminal elements also get active and try to commit snatching and eve-teasing. In crowded places, a minor incident sometimes snowballs into a major law and order problem.
The district police has to look after the vehicular traffic management besides keeping an eye on the antisocial elements which proves to be a challenging job for the police department, especially for the district police.
