Jamshedpur, Sept 28: South Eastern Railway is observing “Swachhata Pakhwada –Swachhata Hi Seva” which began on September 16 and conclude on October 2.
Intensive cleanliness drives have been undertaken at the headquarters and four divisions of South Eastern Railway viz. Kharagpur, Adra, Chakradharpur and Ranchi.
Several events have also been organised over SER jurisdiction in connection with the Swachhata Pakhwada.
This year, Swachhata Pakhwada is being observed with a view to bringing about visible improvement in the level of cleanliness at various Railway establishments and in trains. Special attention will be given to clean track approaches to major railway stations and solid waste management including the ban on plastic and water use efficiency.
Anil Kumar Mishra, General Manager, South Eastern Railway, initiated the Swachhata Pakhwada by administering the Swachhata Pledge to officers and staff at SER headquarters at Garden Reach in Kolkata.
South Eastern Railway employees took an oath to maintain cleanliness at the workplace and keep India as a neat and clean country.
South Eastern Railway observed Swachhata Pakhwada on different themes Swachh Saptaah and Swachh Jagrukta, Swachh Samwad, Swachh Stations, Swachh Railgaadi, Swachh Patri, Swachh Karyalaya, Swachh Colonies & Parisar, Swachh Ahar, Swachh Neer, Swachh Water bodies and Park etc.
All four divisions of SER has organized intensive cleaning drive of railway tracks, station premises, trains etc.
Special emphasis has been given to the cleanliness of railway colonies, office buildings, adjacent areas, water bodies and parks.
To provide hygienic food and water to the passengers, pantry cars, catering units, water treatment plans, filters etc. were thoroughly checked and cleaned.
A webinar was organised at SER headquarters on “Harmful effects of Single use Plastic and Plastic Waste Management (Zero plastic use)” and “Alternative Conventional Energy Project and its use and water stress management (save water) in Climate Change Scenario” on September 19.
A drawing competition for railway employees and their wards was organized at the Garden Reach on the theme of “Water Conservation” on September 20.
An essay competition was also conducted on the topic of “Importance & Awareness on Swachhata” on September 22.
Tree plantation, awareness campaigns, Prabhat Pheri, Shramdaan, Nukkad Nataks etc. were also organized over SER jurisdiction as a part of Swachhata Pakhwada.
