Ranchi, Oct 2: Janhit Foundation Ranchi, a social organization, felicitated Sadar Hospital laparoscopic surgeon  Dr Ajit Kumar for his outstanding service to patients and for performing rare operations.

At a ceremony held at Winbsome Banquet & Resort Hall Hatia (Ranchi) on Sunday evening, Janhit Foundation director Chandan Mishra and president Binit Kumar while felicitating Dr Ajit Kumar said that he has not only given a new lease of life to poor patients who could not afford the cost of laparoscopic operation at a super specialty health centre, but also raised the scope and hopes of treatment of other patients at the Sadar Hospital.

Officials of the state health department stated that Sadar Hospital in Ranchi is not only the first Sadar Hospital in Jharkhand but also in  Bihar, Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh where laparoscopic surgery is being conducted free of cost.

“Till three years ago, it was believed that at Sadar Hospital Ranchi only tubectomy, vasectomy and hernia type operations are done but, at present, the Ranchi Sadar Hospital provides 10 to 12 types of new advanced laparoscopic surgery and such facilities are available at selected corporate hospitals in the state,” said a health department official.

Janhit Foundation officials while felicitating Dr Ajit Kumar said that all has changed in the last three years. Dr Ajit Kumar and his team, who came after completing his post-graduation at Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) Ranchi, changed the scenario of the Sadar Hospital.

In the initial stage, they hired advanced tools on personal capacity for the operation and conducted rare surgeries. But the health department provided last year all the advanced tools to Sadar Hospital. Now, the VIPs are making a beeline at the Sadar Hospital for the same, he added.

Dr Ajit Kumar thanked the Janhit Foundation for recognizing and encouraging the doctors of Sadar Hospital for laparoscopic surgery. “ At present, the Sadar Hospital team not only performs laparoscopic surgery of gall bladder, hernia, tubectomy but also uses advanced Diode Laser operations of haemorrhoids, fissure in ano, fistula, pilonidal sinus surgery and others,” said Dr Ajit Kumar at the function.
