Four of Banjara tribe killed in lightning in Jamtara

Dhanbad, Oct 2: A mother and her three children were killed in lightning in the Chandih Lakhanpur village under Narayanpur police station of Jamtara district on Sunday evening.

Narayanpur police station officer-in-charge Dilip Kumar told media persons that the incident occurred at around 6 pm. The family of seven was living in a tent when the lightning fell on it during rains.

The deceased were identified as mother Neha (25), sons  Ankit (11), Gagan (5) and daughter Ichha Kumari (1). They were residents of the Kotashila area under the Purulia district of Bengal. Three members of the family who were also in the makeshift tent, had a miraculous escape. The tent was completely gutted in lightning.

They used to make iron tools and sell them while roaming in different locations. They had come to Jamtara a few days ago.

A police official said after the incident they were admitted to the Narayanpur CHC and the doctor referred them to the Jamtara Sadar Hospital.  The doctors there declared them as brought dead.
