Dhanbad, Oct 8: A 50-year-old woman died on the spot after being hit by a truck on Sunday morning at Nirsa Bazar Main Chowk on GT Road.
The woman, a resident of Bhurkundabari under the Nirsa police station area, was going from Dhanbad towards Chirkunda. She was crossing the road when she was hit by a truck. The truck’s rear wheel ran over her, leading to her immediate demise at the scene. Her body was tragically scattered into pieces.
Following the incident, a crowd gathered around. The information was reported to the Nirsa police. The Nirsa police team arrived and managed to gather the remains of the body and sent it to Dhanbad for a post-mortem examination with great difficulty.
Traffic was disrupted for hours due to the dead body lying on the road. Due to the Kolkata lane being completely blocked, there was a long queue of vehicles. Traffic started smoothly only after the police arrived and the body was removed. The truck parked at the spot was seized by the police and taken to the police station.
Vehicles standing on the Kolkata-New Delhi Highway near Nirsa have become a major cause of concern for accidents. The road that connects Nirsa with Gopinathpur on both sides often witnesses small vehicles getting hit by trucks and causing fatalities. Furthermore, the dominance of autos and four-wheeled passenger vehicles on both lanes of Nirsa Chowk is also contributing to accidents. In many cases, when people object to these stationary vehicles on the road, confrontations with the drivers often occur.
People have said that drivers park their vehicles arbitrarily on the road. There is no one to tell them, no one to stop them. In the Road Safety Committee meeting, the Deputy Commissioner had told that there are a total of 213 black spots in Dhanbad, which have been identified. In areas where encroachment and illegal parking is taking place, action will be taken as soon as possible. It is clear that many people are losing their lives every day due to the negligence of the district administration.
