Dhanbad, Oct 16: Rupika Sinha, a B.Tech student of IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad got the first position in the inter-educational institution contest organized by the Jharkhand Industry and Trade Association (JITA)  on Sunday evening to mark the birth anniversary of former president and renowned scientist Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

The theme of the seminar-cum-competition was ‘Think for Better Dhanbad’. Shreya Sural of Guru Nanak College and Ishita Anand of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) got second and third positions respectively.

Tabiba Afrin of  Mother Halima Public School was given a special prize for her aerospace presentation in the seminar.

JITA general secretary cum Mission Airport Dhanbad president Rajiv Sharma, while addressing, said that without an airport we can’t ‘Think For Better Dhanbad’. He said Dhanbad is the second most populated district in the state and is the national headquarters of several organizations besides medical college, IIT, and public sector units. The area will get new wings if an airport is made here.

“It looks strange that till 1987  air services were available in Dhanbad and the district fulfilled all criteria required for the airport but now it has been denied facility on technical grounds,” he said. The JITA general secretary said  Dhanbad has developed but the pace of development has been affected due to the lack of an airport.

India  Medical Association  (IMA) state president Dr A K Singh said that despite having a medical college and super speciality hospital no doctors from other parts of the country arrive due to a lack of air service facilities. The patients of the coal belt and surrounding districts have to go out of state for treatment as specialist doctors do not come here.

President of  Bank More Chamber of Commerce  cum vice-president of Mission Dhanbad Airport,  Pramod Goel held people’s representatives responsible for Dhanbad not getting an airport.

Vice-president Satpal Singh, Puja Ratnakar, Ramesh Rahi, Somnath Prithi, Dr Saba, Asif Iqbal, Imran Mallik, Amit Dipu, Pawan Agrawal, Dinesh Mandal, Sidhnath Bharti, Laxman Yadav, Prem Prakash Paswan and others also addressed the seminar.
