Jamshedpur, Oct 25: One more person injured in the idols immersion mishap succumbed to his injuries at the Tata Main Hospital, making the toll in the tragedy to two.

The man who succumbed to his injuries at the hospital late on Tuesday night was a ‘dhakiwala,’ reportedly a resident of Bengal.

Earlier, a middle-aged man identified as Birendra Sharma, who was a member of the Trimurti Durga Puja Samiti in Kitadih succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the Tata Main Hospital a little while after the mishap had taken place.

The tragedy occurred on Tuesday evening when a truck carrying Goddess Durga idols suddenly rolled back at Bodhanwala Ghat along the Kharkai River in Bistupur, causing six persons to come under the wheels of the idol-laden vehicle.

In all, six persons were injured, two of them fatally in the mishap in which the reason behind is being attributed to improper arrangements by the district administration.

Soon after the mishap, the Jamshedpur East legislator Sarayu Roy rushed to the spot and ensured the rescue of the injured and their quick passage to the Tata Main Hospital.

Later, the Jamshedpur West legislator and Health Minister Banna Gupta visited the hospital and took notice of the treatment being provided to the injured admitted there.

Later in the night Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri and senior SP Kaushal Kishore reached the river ghat to make an on-the-spot inspection of the tragedy.

The functionaries of various Puja Committees who had gone over the Kharkai river ghat for the idol immersion of Goddess Durga had created chaos over improper arrangements made by the district administration.

The river ghat was unlit and there was neither any ambulance nor any crane there despite the fact that the district administration had been holding preparatory meetings almost on a daily basis prior to the grand Durga Puja festival in the city.
