Dhanbad, Oct 27: Anjali Kumari of Garhwa and Archita Dey of Jamshedpur entered the final of the girls’ under-15 singles event of the Jharkhand State table tennis championship being played here at Nehru Sports Complex, Koyla Nagar.
In the semifinals of the girl under-15 event, Anjali Kumari of Garhwa beat Arnvi Goel of Hazaribagh while Archita Dey of Jamshedpur defeated Sanbhavi Sinha of Ranchi
In the boys’ under-17 event of the championship, Soumil Mahto and Arun Saha of Jamshedpur entered the quarterfinals of the singles event. In the pre-quarterfinals match Soumil Mahto defeated Ashish Murmu of Giridih in three sets while Arun Saha beat Sumit Saha by the same margin. In other matches Anil Kumar Mehta of Garwha beat Ujjwal Kumar and Nitish Kumar Mehta of Garhwa trounced Abhijit Yadav to book a place in the last eight.
In the men’s doubles event which started today, the Dhanbad pair of Saket Sinha and Ajay Mahajan caused a major upset by defeating last year’s champion Mrinmay Pradhan and Dinesh Rakshit pair of Jamshedpur in straight sets.
Jharkhand Table Tennis Association vice-president Saibal Gupta, general secretary Samarjit Singh, assistant secretary Sudipta Mukherjee, Dhanbad district Table Tennis Association secretary Saket Sinha, Ajay Kumar Mahajan, Binod Kumar Sinha, Sanjiv Sagar were also present on the occasion
