Chakulia: Rampant illegal sand mining shows no signs of stopping

Chakilia, Oct 29: Despite the diligent efforts of the administration to curb illegal sand excavation and transportation from the banks of the Swarnarekha River in Chandanpur, a region under the Shyamsundarpur police station area of Chakulia block, the illegal excavation and transportation of sand remains active.

Illegally stored sand can be found in various locations and is transported elsewhere using tractors and trucks. Tractors openly transport sand from this area. In recent days, Recently, action was taken by the Chakulia zonal officer against illegal excavation and storage of sand in the Shyam Sundarpur police station area. However, these measures have not had any significant impact.

According to the information, sand-laden hywas and tractors go to various places through Pitajudi Chowk, located just a short distance from the police station. From here, dozens of tractors bring sand to the Chakulia market area every day. Tractors laden with sand pass through the airstrip and the road adjacent to the zonal cum block office.

Illegal excavation of sand is going on indiscriminately at various ghats of the Swarnarekha River. No effective action is being taken by the administration to stop it. Illegal storage of sand has been done at many places in the Chakulia Nagar Panchayat area.
